Canistel (Pouteria campechiana)—
The canistel is a very prolific bearing fruit tree from Central America.
The orange yellow fruit has a rich, sweet flavored pulp tasting somewhat like a sweet potato or chestnut.
The highly nutritious fruits are eaten fresh or used in ice creams and breads.
Saludo is a variety with large round fruits with moist flesh.
The trees seem to have a good wind tolerance and are very adaptable to various soils and climates in Hawaii
